System Requirements for OfficeCalendar Free / Busy functionality
Answer
The following requirements must be met in order to utilize the Free / Busy functionality of OfficeCalendar for Outlook. The steps outlined in this knowledgebase article should only be followed by an IT consultant or someone very comfortable working with Microsoft Windows components.
2. The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service of IIS must be installed on the PC designated as the OfficeCalendar Server.
How to install FTP for IIS: 2.1 Go to the Add or Remove Programs list from within the Windows Control Panel. 2.2 Choose the Add/Remove Windows Components option on the left-hand pane of the Add or Remove Programs window. This will launch the Windows Components Wizard. 2.3 Highlight the listing for Internet Information Services (IIS) and choose the Details button. 2.4 Within the Internet Information Services (IIS) window, check the box for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service and click OK. 2.5 Click Next and the Windows Components Wizard will configure the necessary components.
3. Port 21 must be open on any firewall software running on the OfficeCalendar Server PC.
NOTE: AFTER INSTALLING IIS, YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER PRIOR TO CREATING THE OFFICECALENDAR FREE/BUSY.
**NOTE: Internet Information Services (IIS) is NOT available on Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.
The Windows Features must also be set to the following:
1. FTP Publishing Service: -FTP Server 2. Web Management Tools: -IIS Metabase and IIS6 configuration compatibility
Additionally, user must add the following user to the ftproot folder in their inetpub directory ‘OfCalUser’ with full permissions. Depending on where they have installed IIS this could be different on machines. The default location on most machines is: c:\inetpub\ftproot.
To add permissions to ftproot folder do the following: 1. Browse to ftproot folder by opening "My Computer". Default location "c:\inetpub\ftproot". 2. Right click on ftproot folder and select "Properties". 3. At the top, select the "Security" Tab. 4. Click the "Edit" button on the "Security" Tab. 5. On the "Select Users or Groups" click "Advanced" and then "Find Now". 6. In the Bottom Pane with the list of UserNames scroll until you see ‘OfCalUser’. 7. Click "OK" to add ‘OfCalUser’. 8. Click "OK" on the "Select Users and Groups" screen. 9. Within the User Permissions Pane Click the "Allow" check box for "Full Control" for the OfficeCalendar account. 10. Click "OK" on the Permissions for ftproot screen. 11. Click "OK" on the ftproot properties screen.
Users will also need to manually start their Default FTP Site under the IIS 6.0 Manager prior to beginning using OC Free/busy server.
To do this: 1. Open the computer management screen by right clicking on the my computer icon and selecting "Manage". 2. Double click on "Services and Applications". 3. Double click on "Internet Information Services [IIS] 6.0 Manager". 4. Click on "FTP Sites". 5. In the right pane right click on "Default FTP Site" – and select "Start". 6. Click "Yes" to the message box.
