OfficeCalendar will function properly when installed in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network environment. The main portion of the OfficeCalendar installation is the OfficeCalendar Server. The OfficeCalendar Server contains the Administration Console which is where users are created, synchronization permissions are set, and database configurations are stored.
The second part of the OfficeCalendar application are the OfficeCalendar Clients. The OfficeCalendar Client software is installed on each end user machine, and attaches itself within the Microsoft Outlook installation to allow each user to synchronize their data amongst other users.
When the machines are networked properly in a peer-to-peer (P2P) environment and each OfficeCalendar Client end-user machine can properly access the OfficeCalendar Server machine via the network (regardless of which machine on the peer-to-peer network houses the OfficeCalendar Server), OfficeCalendar will synchronize properly.
***PLEASE NOTE*** In a peer-to-peer network environment the OfficeCalendar Server is typically installed on an end-users workstation and not a centralized server machine. In this type of environment the OfficeCalendar Server and an OfficeCalendar Client can run alongside one another on the same machine and still synchronize properly with the rest of the OfficeCalendar Clients as they are two completely separate components.
Additionally, for OfficeCalendar installations previous to version 4.5.1.0. the OfficeCalendar Server runs on the active Microsoft Windows profile it was initially installed on. In the event that the active profile gets logged off the OfficeCalendar Clients will receive a "Cannot Connect to Server" message until that active profile is brought back up and running again.
OfficeCalendar version 4.5.1.0. runs as a Window's Service and does not require a Window's profile to be logged in for the OfficeCalendar Clients to be able to connect and synchronize properly. To determine the OfficeCalendar version please review the online knowledgebase entitled Upgrading OfficeCalendar / Am I on the most current version of OfficeCalendar?
Example: In the diagram below one machine houses both the OfficeCalendar Server and an OfficeCalendar Client, while the other machines only house an OfficeCalendar Client.
