OfficeCalendar will function properly in an environment with a dedicated server machine. The main portion of the OfficeCalendar installation is the OfficeCalendar Server. The OfficeCalendar Server contains the Administration Console which is where users are created, synchronization permissions are set, and database configurations are stored.
The second part of the OfficeCalendar application are the OfficeCalendar Clients. The OfficeCalendar Client software is installed on each end user machine, and attaches to the Microsoft Outlook installation on that machine to allow each user to synchronize their data amongst other users.
When the machines are networked properly to a dedicated server machine and each OfficeCalendar Client end-user machine can properly access the OfficeCalendar Server machine via the network, OfficeCalendar will synchronize properly.
***PLEASE NOTE*** In this type of environment the OfficeCalendar Server stands alone on the dedicated server machine while the OfficeCalendar Client is installed on each end-users workstation.
Additionally, for OfficeCalendar installations previous to version 4.5.1.0. the OfficeCalendar Server runs on the active Microsoft Windows profile it was initially installed on. In the event that the active profile gets logged off the OfficeCalendar Clients will receive a "Cannot Connect to Server" message until that active profile is brought back up and running again. When this is not a foreseeable option and the server machine requires logging off the active profile the OfficeCalendar Server can be run as a windows service, please review the knowledge based article #14# for additional information regarding this type of configuration.
OfficeCalendar version 4.5.1.0. runs as a Window's Service and does not require a Window's profile to be logged in for the OfficeCalendar Clients to be able to connect and synchronize properly. To determine the OfficeCalendar version please review the online knowledgebase entitled Upgrading OfficeCalendar / Am I on the most current version of OfficeCalendar?
Example: In the diagram below the dedicated server machine houses the OfficeCalendar Server and each end-user machine only houses an OfficeCalendar Client.
